ARTIST STATEMENT:
This artwork has a feeling of wildness, looseness, and freedom that one might feel when in the forest.
Inspired by our family adventures and favorite memories in the forest.
The bear is one of the neighbors we share nature with. When going for a wilderness walk, watch out for the Hairy Hiker also traveling the trails!
Our collaborative artwork began with playful, explorative, abstract painting using unconventional tools such as scrapers, rollers, sprayers, and toy car wheels. This curious and raw creative expression is where the magic happened. Involving a kid in the artistic process adds pure, unbridled, authentic creativity.
Gel medium was thrown onto the canvas and shaped with a palette knife to create leaf-like 3D surface texture.
The bear's portrait was drawn in in bright, bold colours and expressive markmaking.
Sealed with fixative.
